Innovative Refrigeration Systems, Inc. is looking for a results-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer in Lyndhurst, VA. This role will provide training and experience to excel at designing some of the largest, most complex and technically innovative refrigeration systems in the nation. With every system custom designed, this role offers growth and challenge even after years of experience. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams, receiving mentorship and hands-on experience in designing refrigeration systems.

Job Role: A Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for creating and optimizing refrigeration system designs that use natural refrigerants, such as ammonia and CO2. This role involves developing detailed mechanical plans, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring designs meet both performance and sustainability goals, while adhering to industry standards and safety regulations.
Key Duties:
- Assist senior engineers in project planning and design reviews to gain comprehensive industry knowledge.
- Using AutoCAD, design mechanical rooms, rooftop penthouses, piping systems, and other components associated with industrial refrigeration systems for cold storage warehouses
- Prepare accurate engineering calculations for projects
- Calculate factors like tolerance, dimensions, and thermal and structural analysis
- Create designs in line with company procedure, regulations and client standards
- Submit drawings to upper management and construction teams
- Provide support during the building and installation process, ensuring that the machine is built properly and according to design specifications
- Build Bills of Materials (BOM) for each design and enter the data into ERP system
- Consult with fabrication teams during product manufacturing, advising them on design specifications and providing physical assistance when required
- Work with purchasing team on material orders
- Communicate with vendors on part specification and fabrication
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently
- Knowledge of AutoCAD or other CAD program (Inventor, Solidworks)
- This position is a safety sensitive position and will require pre-employment and regular drug testing
Preferences:
- A passion for learning and personal development in mechanical engineering and refrigeration systems
- Experience in sheet metal and pipe fabrication
- EIT License
- Interest in pursuing a PE license
- HVAC/MEP experience
- Prior AutoCAD 2D/3D experience
Physical Requirements:
- Occasionally required to stand, stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Frequent walking and bending is required
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Occasional field travel to jobsites will be required in this position. (25% travel can be required in first 1-2 years during training)
- Ability to climb ladders up to 40 feet in height
- Must be comfortable at heights while on a jobsite
