Description:

Hazy Mountain Vineyards in Afton Virginia and Little North Mountain Vineyard in Swoope Virginia is seeking an experienced viticulturist to join our growing team as a Vineyard Manager and oversee the management of our 50+ acres of estate vineyards as well as the cultivation of our 25+ acre vineyard expansion. Our estate is spread across two sites in two separate micro climates 45 minutes apart with varieties planted being specific to each site. Our operation is growing rapidly to what will be a 15k case production of premium wines. The role will be managing all aspects of the vineyard, vine health, fruit quality, crop management, planting, training, pruning and creating an adaptive spray program to be implemented. The role will also include managing the vineyard crew, maintaining under row cover crops/weed suppression, maintaining healthy crops/grass between rows and the perimeter immediately surrounding the vineyards as well as being responsible for coordinating HR compliance (posters, training record retention, etc.) and creating safety protocols.

The expectation of the viticulturist being someone who is passionate about the growing of our grapes and who is constantly striving to improve fruit quality, that will be working to stay informed with the newest information available and paying attention to new practices to implement in our vineyards. Key Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a head vineyard manager.
  • Formal education in viticulture or related field.
  • High level of organization with excellent planning and project management skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with strong knowledge of personnel supervision, procedural practice, and development.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience planting and training new vineyards.
  • Experience creating your own spray program.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work with winemaking team in finding the right vineyard practices to optimize fruit quality.
  • Willingness to continue learning and bringing new ideas to your role.
  • Must be able to work at least 50-60 hours per week
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
